![]() Sand, for example you can't do this at all. Some materials collapse easier than others. you need to check what material you are building with and on. And whatever RNG event decides to occur when weight is unsupported. It depends on when the center walls are put in and on what. That SHOULDN"T collapse but don't quote me on it. So put out a floor over the overhang that's 5 blocks wide, Then put a wall coming back in on the first and 5th floor block for support, then build another floor 3 blocks wide, then put the corner floors in on the 1 and 5 spaces, then the corner fortifications on the 1 and 5, then build the fortifications out to the edge in the center on the 3rd block and finally fill the last 2 fortifications on the 2 and 4 block. you don't want a long single gallery, split it into little bite size chunks so you have supports coming back in every 2-3 blocks. To build it it's a bit more finicky but not by much. So you are actually making 2 seperate overhanging gallery cells with 3 blocks you can shoot through per cell You can even put in floor grates/bars if your gallery overhang width is actually 2 blocks instead of 1. So if you want to overhang a gallery with a total of 5 blocks long with a 1 block overhang you want to have a piece that comes back to full support in the middle. And your total gallery span length is very little, maybe 1 or 2 blocks long. If you dig it you will have little to no problems as long as the overhang span width over the next z layer down is only about 1 block or so. The issue is that you need to make a choice between BUILDING the overhang or DIGGING the overhang. ![]() If you think of the floor as a thin "mini layer" between the main z layers that still adds support to the wall above which is actually at the same z layer it works out. and undug areas will certainly hang over large areas without collapsing. Fortification is a construction that allows the passage of projectiles in and out and liquids, mist, steam, webs, fire, miasma and smoke, but in theory not creatures, making them an important part in a fortress's defense. ![]() Please view the Bugs section for details. Walls and floors will 'hang' over open areas to a certain distance before collapsing. This feature has one or more outstanding bugs.
